i saw a license plate today that had the number "OMG111." i laughed, and then was sad that they'd paid extra for that tag.

i haven't updated in a while, but recent events have made me incensed.

  • it irks me when people push the "stop request" button on the 69 bus for the lechmere stop. lechmere is the end of the line, the bus HAS to stop there, your button pushing is just extraneous and annoying. idiots!
  • sarah palin, mccain's anti-gay, anti-choice creationist running mate, has a pregnant teenaged daughter. now, i have no problem with the fact that her daughter is pregnant, i don't think it should be a campaign issue, and were i voting for her, it wouldn't sway my vote at all. that said, it does highlight a few issues within the context of ms. palin's political beliefs, namely, her staunch anti-choice stance. ms. palin proudly announced that her daughter had "chosen" to keep her baby, highlighting that she did, indeed, have a choice about whether or not to keep the child, a choice that ms. palin would like to remove from all subsequent women who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant. this kind of hypocrisy seems to be, sadly, endemic within the gop, a party that extolls virtues and morals but does not believe that their own rules apply to them.

If you find yourself in NYC, go immediately to tout va bien. Bonus points if you speak passable French: they will give you free food.

So, I have been in NYC for work for the past few weeks, and while I love the city, I am kind of tired of living a transient life. I didn't think when I took on this assignment that I would feel this way, but I am starting to miss home. Boourns.

so this weekend was my first mini-vacay in a while, and while i was looking forward to it and it was super fun and did not disappoint, i am completely exhausted...hence why i am writing up the rundown of the weekend from home, not work, at 3 on a monday afternoon.

so those of you loyal readers that know me will know that i have a love for liz phair that borders on obsession; thus, when the opportunity arose to get tickets (at face, no less) to a sold out show she was playing in NYC on thursday night, i jumped at the opportunity to finally see her live. the show was AMAZING. her set was the entirety of "exile in guyville" (in honor of its re-release), and contrary to her reported stage fright during the tour for the original release of the same album 15 years ago, she now has an incredible repoire with the audience. she also played polyester bride as the last song of the encore and it was great. after the show, i clearly snatched one of the set lists immediately and then got her to sign it and pose for a picture, which i will post approximately never. and yes, i'm rambling because i'm excited still, but the point is that the show was badass.

also badass: jeff and laura's wedding in maryland, tooling around patrick's alma mater in college park, and staying in jessa's new place in DC.

not badass: jessa's scary cat mr. hissy, new jerksey (typo, but keeping it) and ct traffic on the way back, and dc heat.

yes, i'm updating from work. sad, but true.

so, the hellenic festival was AMAZING. the gyros were so ridiculously tasty that we ended up eating them for dinner saturday night and last night. i also ate my first ever loukamades, and they were delicious! for those of you that are as new to them as i am, they are like beignets, but instead of being covered in powdered sugar, they're soaked in honey and covered with ground nuts and cinnamon. absurdly delicious.

in other delicious news, jacob will be pleased to know that pizza ring makes good buffalo wings, which i will probably eat tonight for dinner.

I call bullshit. I just ordered them, and while they got the sauce mostly right, they did a shitty job of cooking them, whatever they did. They're not even remotely crispy. Miserable failure, and completely typical for Boston. You are hereby revoked of your chicken wing judgment privileges, and the best wings in Boston to my knowledge will continue to be, sadly, Hooters.

In retrospect, I should have known they wouldn't be very good when you said they make "good buffalo wings," not "the best buffalo wings ever."

dude that's sad. when i ordered them they were super crispy. maybe they just let yours sit with the sauce on them for too long? when we got them the first time they were awesome, but the second time they were less good; i reasoned that this was because the first time they came with the sauce on the side and were thus still crispy when delivered. also i got the singular joy of pouring sauce on them.

It's amazing how such a simple recipe manages to get fucked up by about 99% of the people that attempt it.

In Pam's defense, the sauce is really what makes or breaks a buffalo wing. Unless they do some bullshit like bread it. The cooking technique can be pretty easily altered. Sometimes you just have to ask for your wings crispy or extra crispy. Even at a place that normally makes great wings, sometimes they'll be made by that douchebag who doesn't know any better or doesn't care enough to keep them in the fryer long enough to sufficiently crisp them. But if you initially ask for extra crispy then you may save yourself the trouble of getting shitty wangs.
In Jake's defense... I'd be pissed if my wings came with sauce on the side. Fuck saucing my own wings when I'm paying a restaurant to sauce them for me.
2008-06-18 16:37:22
Nate
haha i didn't realize that i wrote shitty wangs instead of shitty wings until i just read it. don't worry you're not guaranteed to get a shitty wang if you forget to order your wings extra crispy

In defense of twosense.org, reep the benefits of living a one-dimensional parade through the creepiest parts of an exploding supernova 20 quah-trillion parsecs from your next door neighbor who isn't even alien, doesn't have a nose, don't make a noise, and shits all over himself for the sake of keeping the Sabbath holy everyday except for Sunday.

nate, while i generally agree that sauce should come on the wings, i think that in the delivery situation, it might be different. i'd rather have the sauce put on to begin with, but if it's going to alter the crispiness of the wings, i'd rather just do it myself.

in talking to jacob about this wing debacle, we determined that his wings were breaded. now, i don't know what the dumdums at pizza ring were thinking, but mine were never breaded. it looks like they may have done everyone the disservice of deciding to stock frozen breaded wings. i will order more wings from there and see if they've made a change; if so, i will let them know how disappointing it is in the hopes that this will change their minds (and menu).

I just had a discussion about this stuff with Robbie T, the guy who owns the pizza shop down the road. He knows how to make chicken wings, he's no dummy. He also said "I'm Robbie T, I've been doing this 22 years!" at least 5 or 6 times during the conversation.

in totally new hyperbole news, today was the best day ever. i remembered when i woke up at 9:30 that yesterday i had gotten my hair cut (shoulder length now), and was very excited to take that first post-cut shower. i know that sounds weird, but i always find it a little exhilarating to wash my hair after getting it cut because of the newness of it. anyway, after that i ran some errands, most notably getting my car washed. now, i haven't washed my car in probably 2 years or more, so the difference was shocking, and it looks great. i was sad to note, however, that the removal of the thick layer of grime and pollen coating my car's surface revealed several scratches and minor dings that i didn't know were there. i followed this endeavor by completely OCD'ing out and cleaning my car interior and entire apartment; they both smell 100% better. also i hung the picture that's been sitting on my floor for the better part of a year.

the sense of accomplishment i'm feeling right now is intoxicating. this can only be increased by the greatness of the hellenic festival on magazine street tonight. less awesome: i have to go to work tomorrow.

i just paid my unpaid parking tickets (8) from the past year and a half to the tune of $444.00. i feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders, as i can now renew my registration and park in boston without fear. hoo-ray!

I don't think I could do that in Syracuse. I got one parking ticket for $25. Sent the check on time but accidentally wrote it for $20. So obviously by the time i heard about it, it was past due and I had a $20 late fee plus the $5 I accidentally didn't pay them. So back up to $25. I didn't hear this from othe parking violations bureau. The bastards got a collections agency after my ass for a $25 parking ticket, only a month after the payment was due. They threatened to report it to creditors.

sometimes i wish i were older during the midnineties grunge/alt-rock revolution so that i could've appreciated it better.

that non-sequitur aside, the past month that i haven't updated has been intense. cate, aliya, and ashley visited, marking the first time since graduation that we've all been together. it was amazing: we witnessed a shanking at people's republik and almost jumped a train like boxcar hobos, only to miss it barely and get a ride to the T from a complete stranger who somehow knew the managing partner of my firm. marathon monday was, in a word, legit, and we all mocked adam for his head wound hilarity. the very next weekend (actually, 2 days later), alissa came to town and rocked out with me at beast roast, and, continuing in tradition, people's republik; this time, however, there was 100% less stabbing. also, steer roast was last weekend and my enjoyment of that event has continued in its upward trend begun in 2006.

laura and i are also in the process of blinging out our apartment, and by that i mean finally getting things that we've needed all along. last weekend we went to target and purchased some sweet light turquoise curtains, a coffee maker, and a toaster. hopefully, the smell of burning plastic that currently permeates our house after any use of the toaster will fade with more use, but that remains to be seen. we're also catsitting for my brother for the next month, and though it's only been a week, the cat is already driving us insane with her 5.30am wakeups, but she's so cute that she's easy to forgive.

finally, for those of you who haven't seen it, go see "ironman." it's clever, funny, and exciting: basically, the ideal combination for any summer blockbuster.

actually, i think that all the time. we totally missed out on some really kickass music. plus, flannels! flannels are great.
